BBQ Meat Science

Join Raider Red Meats and GMG at Texas Tech for another great holiday cooking class. Our mission here is to make you better pitmasters. Our professional pitmasters instruct you in the science behind BBQ and leave you with simple and delicious recipes to take home and showcase your new skills. Come hungry and sit back and enjoy our class and some great BBQ!

PITMASTER

John Reeves

Founder and pitboss of Smokin X BBQ, started cooking professionally in 2011. John has numerous top 10 finishes and a couple of Grand Championships under his belt. John and his team competed in 2014 on the Travel Channel and won The Grill of Victory (Lone Star Smokers). Smokin X has been chosen since 2016 to represent Texas Tech University at the Big XII Basket Tournament in Kansas City and plans to go again in 2018. In 2017 John was selected to head up the Texas Dream Team and cook at Billy Bob’s in the historic stockyards of Fort Worth, Tx. John also currently sits on the board of the Raider Red Meats BBQ and Ribeye Championship (KCBS) held on the Texas Tech Campus.

PITMASTER

Sterling Smith

Sterling Smith, owner and pit-master of Loot N’ Booty BBQ, has been competing on the professional BBQ circuit since 2009. In that time, Sterling has traveled the nation and competed in major competitions including the Jack Daniel’s World BBQ Invitational, where they took 5th place in sauce, and won the title of World Pork Champion, and the American Royal World Series of BBQ, where they won Reserve Grand Champion out of more than 550 professional BBQ teams. Sterling has won 29 State Grand and Reserve Grand Championship Awards, more than 250 top ten awards, 8 perfect “180” scores and 2 – 700+ scores. Loot N’ Booty BBQ is the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Arizona BBQ Team of the Year and was recently featured on an episode of Destination America Channel’s Smoked, where Sterling and his wife Molly won the title of “Smoked BBQ Boss.”
