Barbecue Facts
BBQ Facts: How long has America been having backyard barbecues?
The fact is that we don’t exactly know when this type of cooking got its name, but we know charcoal barbecue briquettes were being made in the 19th century; a fellow named Zwoyer who lived in Pennsylvannia was awarded patent D27483 for his design of such a briquette. More BBQ facts: Just about every state in the USA likes to say they were the first and are still the best at barbecue. But since barbecue — or at least outdoor cooking over an open flame — has a 5000 year history, no one on our continent can lay claim to inventing it.
BBQ Facts: Barbecue — How popular is it?
More BBQ facts: About 75% of all American households own a barbecue grill. That means there are over 79 million barbecue grills in our nation alone — just imagine how many barbecues there are in the whole world!!
BBQ Facts: Which is better; the gas barbecue or the charcoal barbecue?
There are just about as many who chose one type as the other. More BBQ facts: But really serious cooks prefer pellet grills because there is greater control over level of heat and flavor of the food grilled; some also say pellet grills are easier to operate, cleaner and a safer way to bbq.
BBQ Facts: Flavoring foods on the barbecue… how is this done?
There are two main ways to influence the flavor of foods you put on the barbecue grill. One is the “rub” (spices and herbs rubbed on the item to be cooked) used, and the other is using certain woods in the cooking process to add flavor. More BBQ facts: this can be done with all types of grills but it’s easiest with a pellet grill. Some of the best known barbecue flavoring woods are apple, cherry, hickory, oak and mesquite and even better are blends of these select hardwoods. Blends excel for barbecuing. Note that this list doesn’t include all of the woods good for barbecue flavor, but note also there are no conifers such as fir or pine in the list, as those woods are never used to barbecue.
BBQ Facts: Why is it easier with a pellet grill to grill more flavorful food?
Easiest question I’ve had all day! Because the pellets are made of various kinds of wood, you simply pour our premium hardwood pellet blend in the hopper and the job is done.
